What is a Lion?

A Lion is you!  A person motivated to help others, be part of our community and a desire to have fun fellowship while doing it!

The Goddard Lions Club has had a very positive relationship with the community of Goddard and the surrounding area.  Through it's many service and humanitarian projects our community has seen many projects completed and services provided.

Chartered in June of 1956 with 44 members, the Goddard Lions Club is part of Lions Clubs International which was founded in 1917.  Humanitarian action has been at the forefront of every endeavor undertaken by members.  In 185 countries and geographic areas, nearly 45,000 Lions clubs have been chartered to serve the needs of their neighbors, and on a larger scale, the global community of which we are all a part.

The Legacy of Lions is built upon the spirit of goodwill generated by our more than 1.4 million members.

Being a part of our community helps develop tomorrows leaders Drug awareness and health and education programs sponsored by the Goddard Lions all work toward creating a healthier and safer environment in which to live in our community.

With the cooperation of the Goddard School District - USD #265, the Goddard Lions Club introduced and supported this nationally recognized program, donating more than $23,000.00 since 1985.

Lions Quest provides guidance for young people to mature into quality, caring individuals.

Sight First, Lions' largest vision saving initiative, is forging new paths toward the eventual eradication of preventable and reversible blindness.

The Goddard Lions Club strongly support this program by gathering used glasses for reuse, financial support to the Leader Dog Program and financial support to the Kansas Lions Sight Foundation.

Local citizens who are in need of help may apply to the Goddard Lions Club to provide eye examines and glasses if needed.

Community Pride - We're Sold on It!

The Goddard Lions Club's members believe that the way our community looks is important.  Throughout the club's history it has taken on such projects as:
  • The finish work of the Goddard Public Library basement
  • The initial outlay of funds and volunteer support to erect three baseball / softball fields at the Goddard Middle School
  • The purchase of much of the Goddard Park's playground equipment, shelters, and labor for upkeep
  • The sponsorship of the Goddard Area Garage Sale Days
  • Sponsorship of the Goddard Lion's Club's Goddard's Operation Holiday which served 135 children and 71 families in the Goddard Community in 1999.  Over $23,145.00 was raised through donations with the cooperation of many area organizations, business, and the Goddard Public Schools.
  • Widow / widowers receive fruit baskets during holidays
  • Donations to other organizations that support our community in times of need like the $1,000.00 donation to Salvation Army this past holiday season.
  • Our strong support of Boy and Cub Scouts by being the Chartered Partner for two Cub Scout Packs and one Boy Scout Troop.
  • The awarding of college scholarships and supporting of other worthwhile student projects or efforts that provide for the future leaders in our community.

How We Support Our Community Service while having fun

The Goddard Lions Club has three major fund-raising projects each year to help provide funds for our ongoing project to our community.  They include:
  • Goddard Lions Club's Fall Festival
    • Held the 1st weekend of October, the festival has games and rides for children as well as craft, arts and health related booths.  Many events happen during the festival to keep it lively including the parade, kid games, bingo, raffles, and much more.
  • The Lions Club also offers a advertising book that is sold to advertisers to promote the festival and Goddard High School Sports.
  • Goddard Lions Club's Pancake Feed
    • Held the third Saturday in February, the Lions serves up great pancakes and homemade sausage for the community.
  • Goddard Lions Club's Fireworks Stand
    • The Lions sell fireworks during the last part of June and 1st part of July to support the Community Fireworks show on July 4th.  Our booth is located at the Northeast Corner of 199th and U.S. 54.
