Welcome to the Goddard Lion Pride Website!

The Lion Pride is the instrumental music program of the Goddard feeder system of Goddard Unified School District 265 in Goddard, Kansas. We are proudly made up of Challenger Intermediate SchoolGoddard Middle School, and Goddard High School.

 THE GHS BOARD

The Instrumental Music program at Goddard High School consists of over 200 students enrolled in one of five different performing ensembles that rehearse every day.  The directors are pleased to offer a wide variety of curricular and co-curricular opportunities for our instrumental music students. Our goal is to provide an environment where every student can feel truly welcome and have the opportunity to learn, advance, and reach their full musical potential during their high school years. We are dedicated to the continual advancement of the finest qualities in Instrumental Music education!

Greetings,
Congratulations to everyone (cast, crew, pit orchestra, and everyone who supported the show) involved in this year’s production of “Fiddler on the Roof.”  It was an honor being a part of such a professional production.  From stage set to curtain close, the attention of detail made it a delightful experience.
Our first round of auditions for the 2012-2013 Lion Pride Marching Band have been announced, field production music has been sent to the print shop, and most importantly we have added three fabulous new marching band staff members.  The directors have decided to streamline our marching band audition process for all wind & brass students.  This process change will result in a minimal obligation from the student perspective.  Marching band auditions have been moved back one week to March 5th & 6th.  Sign-up sheets will be posted on Monday for students to pick a time to audition afterschool on either of those two days.  The students will be assessed on the opening music selection for our 2012-2013 field production in a group setting.  Times will be in 4-minute intervals beginning at 3:00pm and ending at 3:40pm each day.  Please plan accordingly and if there’s a conflict, communicate with a director.
This Thursday through Saturday the following students will be performing in the 2012 KMEA Honor Performing ensembles:
Mark Adair, Bassoon (Goddard-Eisenhower)
Clayton Dir, Alternate Baritone Sax (Goddard)
Kyle Lefler, Trumpet 1 (Goddard)
Isaac Hoetmer, Euphonium (Goddard)

KMEA All-State Orchestra:
Dominic Aragon, Cello (Goddard)
Janelle Garden, Alto Saxophone (Goddard)
Tommy Stoller, Piano (Goddard)

KMEA All-State Jazz Band:
Brandon Anderson, Trumpet 4 (Goddard)
Tommy Stoller, Alternate Piano (Goddard)
As we begin rehearsals with our chamber music ensembles, please be diligent about scheduling a rehearsal time with your directors.  All ensembles wishing to perform at KSHSAA Regional Music Solo & Ensemble on April 14th (Wichita North High School) must perform at the GHS Pre-Contest Show Night on April 5, 2012.

 General Information

  1. 1)    Please see review the information located in the handbook about concert uniforms.  Our parent booster organization has been very thorough in offering an opportunity to order any pieces or parts of the uniforms.  Unfortunately, those deadlines are over a month overdue and at this point, arrangements will need to be made to secure these items without the help of the boosters.  If any member of the band or orchestra is not in the correct uniform, the directors are not obligated to have them perform with the students who did secure the uniform.

    2)  Immediate needs of the program:

    a) We are in need of volunteers for assisting in sponsoring students while we travel to/from future music events. Also, there is still a need for assisting in feeding our students.   If you are interested, please communicate with Mr. Rawlings.

    3)  Please remember that all deadlines for submitting forms are firm!  If there needs to be communication with directors about missing these deadlines then it should happen as soon as possible.  It is the student's personal responsibility to meet all deadlines in order for them to participate in all course offerings.

    4)  Please communicate with your directors if you any questions about the performing schedule.  Occasionally, situations do arise where dates are changed beyond the power of the directors or school.  The directors do ask for your flexibility in this matter and we will in turn extend the same curiosity.

    5)  It is our program expectation that school classes are for rehearsing as a group.  Any individuals that require independent skill building will be required to practice those sections of the repertoire or technique exercises at home. Please see the handbook for more information regarding this policy.  Also, every instrumentalist should have the proper accessories for music making.  If a student does not, they are unprepared for class and this will be reflected in their daily grades.

    6) Never miss an opportunity to fundraise!  Dillon's dollars is an ongoing way to fundraise year round.  Not enough of our GHS families take advantage of this opportunity.  It is a very easy way to increase your student's account for the upcoming spring trip or you might consider using this account to pay for band or orchestra uniforms/apparel.

    7) We have offered our first fundraiser for the year.  Information about product pick-up will be available soon.

    8)  Pep Band assignments have been made and students should know which band they are in if they have done their job by reading the board.  Each blue, white, and jazz bands will have three performances to complete (one performance is counted towards the first semester grade & two performances are counted towards the second semester grade).  If the students have a conflict, there is a separate “Pep Band Conflict form” to fill out and hand in to the directors.  The students need to locate a substitute on their instrument and part from another band and then schedule a “make-up” performance.  All this information will be documented on the conflict form.  Conflict forms for pep band will not be considered unless all the information is completed.  Splitting a 100-member band is much different than in past years when splitting 170 members.
